The other spirit is presumably also a dead human, but nothing is known of their identity. It is later revealed that one of the spirits is Oka Towako, a dead medium and former master of Mitsue Takaeda, who was somehow transformed by the God of the Mountain. To this extent, they are incredibly fearless, facing spirits many times their size without hesitation. They are extremely aggressive and ruthless towards their opponents, attacking incessantly until said opponent is completely destroyed. When Miko brought them tofu as an offering, they growled and muttered in a strange language, but Miko left before they could do any real harm. The two of them seem to obey those who pray at the shrine, but even though they help those who request it, they desire payment for their assistance, Miko's payment is her soul. Their sleeves are billowing and long, obscuring their massive, five-fingered hands tipped with blackened claws and thin, bandaged arms. They wear identical outfits that vaguely resemble those of shrine maidens, with bells hanging around their obi. They are incredibly short, reaching only up to Miko's shoulder.īoth spirits float, as their black, digitigrade legs end in a tapering, wispy point. Their faces consist of a vaguely feline nose, darkened, cracked slits for eyes and a grimacing, sharp-toothed mouths. The Shrine Spirits are a pair of identical spirits with short hair and fox ears.
